James (Jim) Mollison

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jim Mollison he will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sheila and his step sons Darcy (Mel) Hermann & Allen (Annie) Hermann and his eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren from Alberta, his brother and sisters David (Linda) Mollison, Ruth Caron, Linda (Hughie) Barret from Nova Scotia. Predeceased by his parents Clarence (Ted) Shirley Mollison of Nova Scotia. Jim drove taxi from 2012-2019 and formed lots of friendships. He will be missed by all. Cremation has already taken place.

Danna Rose Bayrak

On December 8, 2021, our loving mother, Danna Rose Bayrak (nee Kaminski), of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the age of 74. She is survived by her son Michael (Laurie), daughter Danna Schmidt (Curt), beloved grandchildren Aviana, Malia, Logan, and Jonika, brothers Regan and Ronald Kaminski, sister Deborah Miller (Julian), nephew Laurence Mah, cousins Jay Morrell, Kiki Briesbois-Morrell, and Donna Moore (Michael), and great aunts Lillian Martin and Kiki Violet Morrell. She was predeceased by her brother Scott “Butch”, mother Rosa Kaminski (nee Kurtin), and father Danny Koshman.

She worked at the Edmonton Country Club, Imperial Oil, Royal Glenora Club, ran her Plants Plus business, and was a territory manager in the wine and orthotics industries.

She was beloved by many friends and pets, and taught us about unconditional love, loyalty, friendship, and generosity—an angel in life and now she is among them.

Sarah Pettican-Towstego

Sarah Pettican-Towstego was 24, born December 1997 in Edmonton to parents, Robert Towstego and Marnie Pettican-Towstego.
Sarah enjoyed all sports like skiing, baseball, football and from an early age and all throughout her teenage years, Sarah had a love of hockey. As a goalie she helped her teams make provincial playoffs numerous times, win many tournaments and championships. Along the way her skills helped her achieved several MVP awards. Off the ice, travel was one of her favorite passions, which paired well with her love of the ocean and having big adventures. She had a creative side also, and could often be found drawing, coloring and doing bead work. Sarah was warm and kindhearted, with a caring nature which made her approachable, easy to talk to, and welcoming to everyone she met. Indeed, Sarah was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and volunteered hundreds of hours through school, the Emergency Response Career Pathway Program as well as other volunteer programs. Sarah loved all animals and besides her cat and dog the moose was her favorite.
Sarah will always remain a part of our cherished memories and will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her. She is survived by her parents, Robert and Marnie, her brothers, Matthew and Kevin, her Grandparents, Alan and Linda Pettican, her uncle Chris and aunt Keitrina, and cousins, Jessica and Kendra. Paternal biological grandparents Valorie and Dennis, uncles Kevin, Craig, and Chris (passed). She is predeceased by grandparents, Betty and Walter Towstego, and uncle Paul.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at St. Andrew’s United Church, 9915-148st Edmonton.

Tyrell was driven, motivated and hard working. He was kind, considerate and took pride in all he did on the ranch that he loved so dearly. He loved the rodeo, his friends and his family.

Tyrell is survived by his loving family: His Mom, Edna; Brothers; Cantrell (Kassandra) Mitchell (Joslin) Darnell (Misty) Chris (Shauna), Reg (Jasmina) & Steven (Melynn) His nieces & nephews; Chandler, Ezra, Henry, Branson, McKenna, Emmett, Alexis, Christian, Emily, Ethan, Adley, Desta and Axtyn; Aunts, Uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.

I thought of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and days before that too. I think of you in silence, I often speak your name, All I have are memories, and your picture in a frame. Your memory is a keepsake from which I’ll never part. George (Duro) Horvat

George (Duro) Horvat was born on April 14-1932 in Cirkovljan ,Croatia .
Passed away peacefully on November 10-2021 in Edmonton, Alberta.

George had 3 brothers and 1 sister George was the youngest sibling of 5
Parents Franjo Horvat, Katarina Horvat.

George Left Former Yugoslavia in his late 20’s and lived in Italy. After spending some time in Italy he found work coalmining in the city of, Merkstein, Germany. While working in Germany, George met his wife to be Hildegard Sacht.
From there George and Hilda, embarked on a journey to Canada settling and putting roots down in Edmonton, Alberta.

George and Hilde Horvat had 3 children Gabriele deceased at 13, Lorraine, and Frank.
With Grandchildren Abbi(Alex), Tessa, Gracie, Jeff(Nicole),Greg,(Lianne), Stephanie(Christof).
Great Grandchildren, Emily, Hailey, and Kobe.

George was a hard workingman, and his experiences led him to become a carpenter. George was very proud and was known for his strong work ethic. He was a loving husband and provided endless support for his family and friends.

George spent a lot of his life, taking care of his children whilst being a compassionate caregiver to his wife.

Dad planted the foundation for his children to continue his legacy of hard work, unconditional Love, and support for family and friends.
We love him very much; he will be missed, being in our hearts and memories forever.

Herbert Freer

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of;
Herbert Freer June 1937 – Nov. 2021.
Herbert immigrated to Canada from Hull England in 1959 where he became a Marine Engineer. In 1968 he moved to America continuing his work as an engineer. He returned to N.S. in 2002 to spend a bit of time with family. He then moved out here to Ab. in 2007 to be with his other brother & sister.
He enjoyed his lifestyle here, he loved boating, fishing & of course telling stories around the campfire.
Herbert is survived by wife Debbie, a step_son, three step_ daughters & a son Herbie Alan,, all of Florida, two daughters, Jane & Mandy of Hull England. Many grand_children & great_grandchildren & numerous nieces & nephews.
Survived also by siblings;
(Suster) Iris Wood, brother;George (Gail), All of Mulgrave, NS.
Also brother Alan ( Linda),
Sister Barbara ( Reg) , all from Sherwood Park. Ab.
Herbert was pre_ deceased by parents George & Violet Freer, first wife Marilyn, a son Richard, & a sister Patricia.
Some of Herbert’s happiest times were spending time with his extended family at the Lodge & going trail riding on his scooter with his buddy John.
He is going to be missed by many.
It was Herbert’s wish to be cremated & his ashes spread at sea. His wishes were fulfilled.

Herta Polednik

Herta Polednik, born Herta Krzystyniak age 94 passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Jubilee Lodge care home where she resided for the past 5 years.
She is predeceased by her husband Friedrich (Fred) and her son Gary. She was a loving wife and mother. In her early days she was a remarkable seamstress and one heck of a cook.
Prior to residing in a care home she lived for 13 years with her daughter Marianne , son-in-law James, and there dogs. She loved spending as many warm days possible outside in the garden tending to the many flowers with a cup of tea and canine company.
Shortly after getting married, at just 24 years old Herta & Fred and there Friends left Germany to come to Canada via steamship across the Atlantic to begin there lives. New country, new language, and big dreams. Living a short while in Winnipeg,MB then moving to Vancouver,BC to settle and start a family. In 1971 they moved again with there 2 kids to Edmonton,AB where she lived out her life.
She was a beautiful soul, sadly life goes on regardless who is left with us on this journey. We pay tribute to her everyday.

Gordon Albert Brown

Gordon Albert Brown passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 30, 2021 at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton. He was born on October 9, 1936 and raised in the farming community of Whitemouth Manitoba and is survived by his brother Ernie Brown. He was certified as a Chartered Accountant and had a successful career in Manitoba and Alberta as a partner with Dunwoody & Company spanning 50+ years. He met the love of his life, Maureen (Tucker) Brown, on a blind date 60 years ago and they created a wonderful life together. He was an exceptional role model for their 4 children – Trevor Brown, Leslie (Brown) Begert, Darrin Brown, and Carleen (Brown) Hamdon; 12 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren – providing laughter to family gatherings thanks to his keen interest in the lives of his children and grandchildren and his humble pragmatic attitude towards life. He spent hours with his family in conversation and debate. He loved watching and playing various sports but most notably, his favourite – golfing as a member of Edmonton’s Derrick Golf & Winter Club with his gang. He and Maureen played golf on many courses as part of their world travel, and as part of their retirement in warmer climates. His intense competitive focus also came through in the annual Brown family Egg Champing contest, and in later years through hours spent playing chess and bridge. The family would like to thank the staff at the Mazankowski CCU for their care. There will be no memorial service; messages for the family can be left at Simply Cremations (simplycremations.com). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney or Heart & Stroke Foundations.

Robert Dyck

Robert (Bob) Dyck of Edmonton, Alberta passed away peacefully at home at the age of 62, on November 20, 2021 after a lengthy illness. He will be forever remembered by his family, brothers Randy (Patti) Dyck, Earl (Janet) Dyck and sister Charlene (Greg) DeWolfe. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary and his father, Henry. Although he was a very solitary person throughout much of his life, Bob was always known as a genuine person and a “nice guy” to those fortunate enough to have known him. We would like to thank the staff at Sprucewood Place for the excellent care they gave Bob over the past seven months. At Bob’s request there will be no service. He will be cremated and his ashes spread in the mountains as was his wish. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your own choosing.

Erna Louise Hamaluk

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Erna Hamaluk on November 17, 2021.
Erna will be deeply missed by her children: Len(Ruth), Nick(Lois) and Wendy(Daryl).
Baba always held her grandchildren very close to her heart: Amber(Brent), Ashley(Mark), Adam(Stacie), Travis, Brad(Kasydi), Megan(Cody), Ty, Hailey, Tiffany & Kate and great-grandchild: Brooklyn. She was known as Baba to so many and we know she will be greatly missed by her extended family and numerous friends.

At this time there will be no formal service held.

Erna’s family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the Ottewell Lodge staff and residents where she lived for the past few years. She made many special friends while living there. Also, a big thank you to the Grey Nuns Hospital staff and St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital staff for their care and support to ensure Erna’s comfort throughout her stay.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital or the Grey Nuns Palliative Care unit.
