ASHLEY GALE MARK VEINOTTE, 40, of Edmonton, AB passed away in his home on September 22, 2020. Born in Middleton NS on Jan. 29 1980, he was the son of Emma Diann Veinotte, Mark and Marlene Veinotte.

Ashley grew up in the Annapolis Valley, NS but resided in Alberta for the last nine years. Ashley had a love for mechanic work. If it didn’t work, he wouldn’t stop until it did. He wanted to pass on his knowledge of mechanics to his three year old son, Hunter, teaching him how to fix his battery powered truck. He had a passion for hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He loved the outdoors especially camping. He would get his camper out and take whoever was available camping with him.

Ashley left us way to soon. He was a Superman to his mother and always will be. He was well loved by his family and everyone who knew him. He was always up for a few laughs. He was well known for his famous saying “ DON’T USE THE LORDS’ NAME IN VAIN”

He is survived by his mother Emma Diann Veinotte, Nictaux NS; father and step mother Mark (Marlene) Veinotte, Nictaux NS; sister Tanya (Michael) Veinotte, Waterville NS; brother Jason Veinotte, Nictaux NS; step sister Melissa (Jason) Crouse, New Minas NS; son Hunter Veinotte, Edmonton AB; daughter Summer Veinotte, Leduc AB; nieces Kristen, Haley and Kyleigh; nephews Dylan, Logan, Jake and one great nephew, Holden. Ashley also leaves behind many Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends.

Ashley was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Lillian and Arnold Jones and paternal grandparents Ruth and Owen Veinotte. Also an Aunt on his father’s side and an uncle on his mother’s side.

In keeping with Ashley’s wishes, cremation has taken place in Alberta. He will be brought back to Nova Scotia for a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Edmonton Humane Association, or S.P.C.A.

Evan M. Pilby
May 17, 1998 – September 19, 2020
We are devastated by the sudden and unexpected loss of our beloved son at the tender age of 22. As we struggle to accept his death, we remember him lovingly and will forever miss his quirky humor, quiet unassuming ways, adventurous spirit, and most of all his presence in our lives.
Evan was preceded in death by his grandparents Wanda Shymko, Kyr and Eric Pilby; uncles Craig Shymko and Peter Pilby, and aunts Marilee Haylock and Lind Boddaert.
Left to grieve his loss are his mother Sonia Lovely (Shymko), father Stephen Pilby and his wife Suzanne Boucher (and family); siblings Andrew Lovely (Crystal Chan and family), Megan Newman (Greg and family), and Kathleen Lovely (Marcus Zuidhof); his extended maternal family, grandfather Edward Shymko, uncle Aymen Shymko (Yuka and family), and aunt Karen Shymko (and family); his extended paternal family, uncle Jeff Pilby, and cousin Jennifer Pilby (Eduardo Gomez and family). His loss is also felt by many who cared for him deeply, including friends and coworkers.
A private gathering of close friends and family will be held on Saturday October 3, 2020 to remember Evan’s life.

On Friday September 4,2020 Joyce Stephania McDonald of Edmonton AB passed away at the age of 68 years. She is Survived by her 2 loving Daughters , Chandra Bourbonnais (Chuck) , and Media Patton (John). 4 Grandchildren, Samantha, Russell, Dutch, and Chase. 1 Great Grandson Ryder. 1 Brother Ray Ollie (Louise) and many many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her Father Dan, Mother Vera, Sisters Pauline and Violet, and Brothers Lawrence, Bill, Ed, Jerry, and Tom. On October 4, 2020 a small Family Gathering will be held in loving memory of Joyce McDonald. She will be Forever Remembered in our Hearts.

It is with great sadness, that the family of Ben Rooks announce his sudden passing on Sept 18, 2020, at the age of 40.

Ben was born on February 9, 1980 to Monty Rooks, and Kim Brown. He spent most of his formative years living between Fort McMurray, and Whitecourt, and settled in Edmonton, AB in 2011 where he met his wife, Amy. Then were married and had their son, Cohen, in 2015.

Throughout his life, Ben had a passion for sports and was an exceptional hockey goalie. He was voted MVP on numerous occasions. He was also an avid golfer and always strived to improved his game. Ben was an incredibly talented mechanic, and pursued a career as a heavy equipment technician.

In his personal life, Ben considered his greatest accomplishment of being a loving and protective father to Cohen.

Friends and family knew Ben for his hilarious wit, incredible energy and his great big heart.

Ben is survived by his wife, Amy Rooks and their son, Cohen Rooks; his father, Monty Rooks and step-mother Marcie; his mother, Kim Brown; his sister, Lacey Rooks-Turcotte (Daniel Turcotte); his brother, Britt Rooks; his step-sisters, Mavreen Anderson (Wayne Anderson), and Tara Mauch; his step brother, Tyson Mauch, (Erin Mauch); Grandfather, Joe Rooks; nieces Morgan Turcotte and Alesha Anderson; nephews Hunter Turcotte and Tyrell Anderson; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

With fond memories and a heavy heart I announce the passing of Robert Broughton at the general hospital in Fort Saskatchewan on September 7, 2020 after losing a battle with cancer.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Helen, his brother Ken, his sister Patricia and many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Bob’s wishes, no formal funeral will be held, however, the family will gather for a luncheon in his memory at a later date.

Soldan, Alice May (née Brant) 1924-2020
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of our mother at 96 years of age on September 11th. Alice will be lovingly remembered by her children, Gail (Herm) Hordal, Betty Anne (David) Rostrup, Linda(Brian) Lovig, Bill (Pat) Soldan, 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Also on the very day Alice left this world a new great grandchild was born. Alice will also be missed dearly by her brother, Harry Brant. She was predeceased by her husband Samuel Soldan. Alice was a nursing graduate of St Pauls School of Nursing Saskatoon, graduating in 1946. She nursed in Fort San-Fort Qu’appelle, Sask.,Red Cross Outpost in Loon Lake, Sask.,Vermilion and Oyen, AB. She was a beautiful soul and always had a positive outlook on life. Singing, music, travel and her faith were so important to her. We were so blessed to have her in our lives. She was steadfast in her love of family and left a lasting impression with those fortunate to meet her. She will always be remembered for that very special smile. The depths of sorrow we cannot tell, Of the loss of one we loved so well; And while she sleeps a peaceful sleep, Her memory we shall always keep. Amidst these unprecedented times the family will have a private celebration of life.

It is with great sadness and torn hearts that we are announcing the passing of our loved one Christina Rae (Carter) Demyen.

Christina was born February 8, 1979 to Dale and Michelle Carter. After a 14 ½ year long and very courageous battle with brain cancer, Christina finally surrendered to the fight on September 12, 2020.

Christina is predeceased by her recently deceased uncle, Marvin Boyko, and grandparents, Bert and Jan Carter.

Mourning the loss of Christina is her loving and devoted husband, Douglas Demyen, his parents Lloyd and Louise Demyen, and brother Jeffrey Demyen, and Christina’s parents Dale and Michelle Carter, brother Timothy Carter, grandparents John and Jean Boyko, along with aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Christina was a very strong, determined woman. She was a “Warrior of Life”. Considering her health struggles over the past 14 years, Christina was able to achieve many things in life. She graduated from Luther High School in 1997, was involved in the Canadian Navy where she spent training time in Victoria BC. During this time, she earned NCIOP (Naval Communications Officer) credentials.

Christina met her loving husband Doug in 2003. They found that throughout their growing up years, they had actually taken some art classes together and were near neighbours for a period of time. They moved to Edmonton in 2004 to pursue their degrees at the University of Alberta. Christina had to drop out of university half way through due to the diagnosis of her brain tumor. She did, however, finish the semester with the highest grade in the class in the spring of 2006.

During the next 14 ½ years, Christina had to relearn to do many things due to the repercussions of her tumor. However, her strong will and determination made her accomplish many things. Christina achieved many certifications during this time: EASL, Insurance Broker, and Personal Fitness Trainer, along with many other accomplishments. She was finally able to go back to university in the last few years of her life and finish her Bachelor of Technology. This eventually enabled her to work with her husband for a short period of time in the video game industry, which meant a lot to both of them.

Christina was a very driven, focused person with more determination and drive than anyone we have ever known in life. She will always be in our memories and heart.

Life goes on and memories can be forever. We know that in heaven she is moving forward and achieving more than one can imagine. She is a strong force, and has always been!

Due to current restrictions, Christina will be cremated with a small family service. Her wishes are to have part of her ashes spread in Kananaskis County, Alberta, where she and Doug were engaged and had many holidays. She will also be scattered in Victoria, BC, a place with which she truly fell in love during her early years in the Canadian Forces. A plaque will be placed on the headstone of her departed grandparents, Bert and Jan Carter, in Raymore, Saskatchewan. Plus a tree will also be planted in her memory.

Tears, memories and heartache will always be with us. Rest in peace, beautiful child of ours.

Skyler Dylan Johnston
April 22, 1999 – Sept 14, 2020

It is with profound sadness and immense gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce that our beloved Skyler Dylan Johnston, at the age of 21, was taken suddenly from this world.

Skyler is survived by his mother Tori Greene and his father Wayne Johnston; his step mother Sarah and half siblings Ivy, Leo and Forrest; his grandparents
Marion Greene, Brian Greene, Jean Johnston and Marie Holt; and many Aunts, Uncles, Great Aunts, Great Uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly.
He is also survived by his lifelong best friends Damon, Tyler and Miguel and second mother, Mary.

Skyler was a pure hearted, old soul who had the ability to fully enjoy every experience that came his way. He lived by the motto that it was the people he was with that mattered, and spending time with those people that counts, no matter the activity. He experienced many great adventures; he traveled; he met his celebrities; he made many new friends and connections. He brought great joy to the simple things.

Skyler will be missed by many people, his family friends and everyone who had the opportunity to meet him and know him. His unique health challenges throughout his life helped shape him into a unique expression of God’s presence. He showed us all that no limitation or challenge was bigger than the human spirit. Always kind, thoughtful and supportive of others. His spirit and light will live on within all of us who follow his commitment to live and be his best at all time.

It is with exceptionally heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother & Friend.

Born August 11, 1934, Marguerite had just celebrated her 86th birthday surrounded by friends and family, but left us very suddenly August 21, 2020. The loving and hard-working matriarch of her family, Marguerite was fondly known as “Peggy or Baba” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and newcomers alike. Known best for her bountiful kindness and unconditional love, Marguerite was known for her sassy fashion sense, will be missed by all. Marguerite was born to a family of 10 children in Quebec City, Quebec. She travelled out West in search of adventure. She was successful, and adventure she did find. She revelled in memories and told endless stories of working as a waitress in downtown Vancouver, as a labourer on the docks, and attending the Calgary Stampede as a beautiful young woman in the 1950s. Eventually, Marguerite settled down and married Bernard Lofstrand and had three children: Leonard (Wendy), Bruce (Jill) and Karen. Later, as the grandchildren began to arrive, the family continued to grow. Krista, Dana, Tyler, Mariah, Cheyenne, and Evelyn joined the happy bunch. We were all blessed to have Marguerite with us and loving us long enough for her to be a huge part of her great-grandchildrens’ lives. Drekye, Olivia, Emma and Kenyon have grown and flourished in love due, in great part, to their Baba’s patience and playfulness, her absolute unconditional love and always a desire to make sure everyone was fed the most delicious treats and comfort food. Marguerite was a long-time friend of the Sisters of Charity and employee of St. Vincent’s Convent; where she was employed as Head Cook. Though loved by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her, Marguerite found the strongest bond of friendship thousands of kilometers away. Her best friend, Ellie lives in Massachusetts and each adopted the other’s families as their own. Marguerite will also be greatly missed by the family members remaining back East. Armand (Claudette), Leonard (Diane), Anita, Ginette, Francine. Marguerite survived all her husband’s, Bernard Lofstrand, George Douris, and Rudolph “Lefty” Petschl. She will be missed by all!
