Dawn S. Hicks (nee McLean)
November 21, 1950 – April 30, 2022
It is with sadness we announce the death of Dawn Hicks at the age of 71. Dawn was born in Calgary to Stuart and Beryl McLean on November 21, 1950 and passed away April 30, 2022 in Sherwood Park, Alberta.
Dawn grew up in Calgary and was an accomplished rider. She was crowned Calgary Stampede Princess in 1972. Dawn moved to Edmonton in 1985 and later moved to Sherwood Park. She held several jobs throughout her life at which she took great pride. She also acted as a volunteer at Silver Birch Lodge for many years. Dawn was very generous and loved helping and being a companion to the seniors. She was also an animal lover and was particularly fond of her cats who were great companions for her over the years.
Dawn is survived by Rawn Sexsmith (Tim), Rod Stewart (Doris), Kim Stewart, Jon McLean (Brenda). She was particularly proud of her nephews Logan Sexsmith (Carey) and Tyson Sexsmith (Chantel) and great nieces and nephews Stockton, Hudson, Sutton, Mason, and Harper. Also left to mourn is her very special Uncle, Keith McLean who was her “rock”. She will be remembered by her nieces and nephews Nadia and Spencer Stewart (Cheryl), Dan Bourque (Appa), and Bryce and Kelsey McLean. There are several other relatives who won’t be forgotten.
Dawn was pre-deceased by her Mother (Beryl) in 1967, Father (Stuart) in 2004, and Step-mother (Pam) in 2017. She will be sadly missed by all.
I will always have fond memories of Dawn. She was so kind and had such a wonderful soul. I did not get the opportunity to see her too much but every visit was warm and included goodies that she picked up for my girls at Walmart. I think my last memory was over at Dad’s cooking a holiday dinner with Dawn and I had a lot of fun bugging her and working hard to make her smile. Good kind Soul!
