Edouard “Ed” Felix Joseph Lacoursiere
Passed away April 11, 2024
Ed Lacoursiere was born in Marcelin, Saskatchewan on Nov. 9, 1933 to parents Joseph and Rose Lacoursiere. As a young man he worked as a farm hand. He later became a truck driver delivering gas. He married Irene Willick in October 1954 and over the next 6 years they quickly had 4 children.
They lived in Lloydminster, Moose Jaw, Mildred, Fort St. James, back to Lloydminster, then to Saskatoon. In 1963 he took a job to drive bus for Canadian Coachways which moved the family to Peace River, Alta. When Canadian Coachways was bought out he moved on to a different type of travelling position as a sales rep for Horne and Pitfield Foods. His dream was always to own his own business so he tried a gas station then a snowmobile dealership then came his big dream of being a hotel owner. He was part owner of the MacNamara Hotel in Peace River, the Grimshaw Hotel, the Ponoka Hotel, and finally the Y Motor Hotel in Valleyview.
Unfortunately, his marriage and his hotel partnership did not last. He met his life partner Sandra Vos, they moved to a home on the Smokey River and ran the Y Hotel until it was a victim of the economy in the late 1980’s. He went back to sales and worked for a car dealership for a few years before his retirement. He played hockey and later helped manage the Stampeders men’s team in Peace River, then switched to golfing in his 40’s. Ed and Sandra spent a couple of months every winter, for many years, golfing in Arizona. Ed also liked to hunt and fish.
Ed had great love for his family and was very proud of his grandchildren. Cherishing and loving his memory are his partner of 49 years, Sandra Vos; his children Real Lacoursiere (Julienne), Karen Phillips (Mike), Janet van Hooydonk (John) and Adele Carson (Allen); his step-daughter Carrie Laliberte (Camille); his grandchildren Marc Lacoursiere, Michel Lacoursiere (Lucy), Tory Ansuwan (Yuji), Crystal Phillips, Kelly Phillips, Shane van Hooydonk (Eileen), Ryan van Hooydonk (Courtney), Curtis (CJ) van Hooydonk, Adam Carson and Aaron Carson; his step-grandchildren Chantal Laliberte, Cameron Laliberte, Christian Laliberte and Taylor-Chloe Laliberte; his great grandchildren Sylvie Lacoursiere, Reina Lacoursiere, Josie Lacoursiere, Phoenix Ansuwan, Naya Ansuwan, Chase van Hooydonk and Elaena van Hooydonk; step-great grandchildren Taiya Stewart, Wesley Stewart, Adaline Curtin, Scottlyn Curtin and Autumn Laliberte.
