Our dear Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, Isabell Dombro, passed peacefully into the light on January 23, 2021. This remarkable woman broke many barriers and paved the way for young women and men who followed. She was a fearless adventurer and explorer who opened the first day school on Baffin Island and braved arctic blizzards on a komatik; she mined for gold in the Caribou Gold Fields; she lived with the Good Fish Lake Cree; she organized and shipped Western hay and alfalfa to drought-stricken farmers in Eastern Canada; she crossed the desert sands of Arabia; she sailed the Seas navigating through ship-wrecks, hurricanes and pirates. She was as comfortable in a village hut as in a palace. She was genuinely interested in people and always had time for them. She loved animals and was a defender of the environment and the natural world. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends. Her consciousness shines brightly in our memories and in our hearts. Bon-voyage, we love you!

Dear Lawrence and family,
I have just read this tribute to your mom again. I think it is so beautiful, fitting and honouring of her and the life she led. She was incredible, and a bright light.
You have had so much loss this past year and I’m so sorry for all you’ve gone through. I pray for comfort and peace for you. You loved your mom so well and I could see what a great comfort that was to her in her final years and days.
Take care
Sandra (Devonshire)
