It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the unexpected passing of Jane Nagy (Cowles) on June 5, 2024, at the Grey Nuns Hospital. This news comes as a shock to us all, considering Jane’s resilient nature, having fought through previous health challenges.
Jane was born on May 19, 1939, to Frank and Matilda (Sebastian) Cowles in Edmonton, Alberta.
She was the 2nd of 6 children. Being second motivated her to support others and strive to be the best. She maintained these qualities throughout her life.
From a very young age, Jane was introduced to ‘the lake’ (Pigeon Lake). This was not a place to go but a place to experience. There’s no doubt her time spent at the lake was a true reflection of her.
She was able to instill her love for the lake in others, helping to build a community around it. Jane was one of the founding members of the Mulhurst Bay Quilting Club and also founded Mulhurst Bay Ladies Day. Additionally, Jane sold her popular salsa at craft sales over the years.
Jane’s perseverance and uplifting spirit have left a lasting mark on the lives she touched. She took immense pride in her family and their journey through life.
She will be deeply missed but will always be remembered through her loving husband of 54 years, Ben Nagy, her daughter Susan (Nagy) Mullen and son-in-law Don Mullen, granddaughters Beth and Anne Mullen, son Ted Nagy and daughter-in-law Erin (Kerr) Nagy, grandchildren Taylor and Nikolas. She is also survived by her siblings: Mary (Cowles) Knights husband Bob, Judy (Cowles) Alilovic, Connie (Cowles) Bunnin husband Dave, Peggy (Cowles) Juchli husband Rob, and Buck Cowles wife Penny (Cowley). Jane also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 3:00 p.m. at
Telford Senior Centre, Leduc Alberta.
Jane would appreciate those who can attend the celebration to wear her favourite colours (anything pastel). She would say, “Black is not a good colour for a celebration it’s just not a happy colour’.
To help continue building Jane’s beloved communities the family requests donations be made to Mulhurst Bay Community League mulhurstbaycommunity@gmail.com
Our condolences go out to Jane’s family. She was a kind person with a thoughtful intelligence that usually involved a great sense of humor, fairness, family pride and loyalty.
United again with her parents.
God Bless.
Well, Janey, sorry we couldn’t make it today…. we have been cousins for a very long time now, in and out of touch, but somehow never strangers…. even though it was often years between our conversations, it was always amazing how we could pull up a chair and in seconds be into a discussion as if we had just seen each other yesterday…. missing you today.
