Kurtis Douglas Steel, born on December 12, 1958, in Cut Knife, Saskatchewan to Delbert and Marie Steel, was a cherished individual whose life was cut short on April 5, at the age of 65. Kurtis dedicated 46 years of his professional life as a saw filer at Blue Ridge Lumber, demonstrating not just skill but a profound commitment to his work.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Kurtis harbored a deep affection for all living creatures, large and small. His passion for the outdoors was evident in his various activities—whether it was tending to cattle, riding horses, hunting, or fishing, Kurtis was most at home in the embrace of nature. His happiest moments were those spent in the company of his beloved family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Kurtis’s legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Loraine, and his adored mother, Marie Steel. His memory will also be cherished by his children, Chris (Tasha) Steel, Dean (Alison) Steel, Denny (Cora) Steel, and Trina (Cory) Tisdale; his grandchildren Mychael, Trey, Dalton, Megan, Layne, Masen, Dylan, Lillyan, Alyvia, Maden, Kurtis, Declan, Keaton; and his great-granddaughter, Violet. He leaves behind a sister, Janice (Walter) Schenn; a brother, Darcy (Verna) Steel; a sister, Leanne (Brian) Elliott; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Sadly predeceased by his father, Delbert Steel, Kurtis’s absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him. A celebration of Kurtis’s life will be held on April 20th at 2:00 PM at Anselmo Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kurtis’s memory can be made to the Mayerthorpe Healthcare Centre.
