Family and friends were everything to Rhonda. It is with great sadness and regret that we are announcing her passing.
Rhonda Mastel (Helfrich) was born to Tony & Cecile Helfrich in leader Saskatchewan on February 5,1962. Rhonda may have been born in a small town but her heart was meant for the big city. Rhonda moved to Calgary when she was 18 years old. Rhonda’s husband Jerome Mastel, was a farm boy through and through but he was willing to do anything for Rhonda so he packed his bags and moved to the big city. Jerome and Rhonda moved to Edmonton in June of 1985. Edmonton is where Rhonda made her home. She had her two children Colton Mastel and Amber Mastel Kaps in the grey nuns hospital. Rhonda was an outgoing soul who loved to go out and meet new people. She made so many loving friends throughout her life. Rhonda’s friends were a happy place for her, it was where she felt safe and like she was able to be herself. She was always looking for new adventures to go on with her friends. Rhonda worked as a financial administrator for her entire working career.
Rhonda was a beautiful soul who always wore a smile on her face. She was so positive in life, no matter what was thrown her way, she would say “I got this, one day at a time.”
Rhonda was predeceased by both her parents (Tony & Cecile), her brothers Rodney & Bernie, her sister Yvonne as well as her niece Cherise and nephew Logan. Rhonda is survived and sincerely missed by her husband of 42 years Jerome Mastel, her son Colton Mastel (Jamie) and his son Finley, her daughter Amber Mastel Kaps and her daughter Jayleah. God gave her a beautiful life and I know that I am not the only one deeply affected, in one way or another, by the loss of Rhonda. She had won the hearts of so many people. Rhonda truly did make the world a better place.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 14,2024 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church located at 5010 52 ave, Stony Plain T7Z 1C1.
Today I heard of the passing of co-worker Rhonda.
She was a remarkable lady in the truest sense of the word. Vivacious and full of love of life. Although it has been a long time since we worked in the same office, the laughs and jokes were always appreciated.
Rest in peace.
Our deepest thoughts and blessings to Rhonda’s family. Rhonda was so gracious with her time and over the last 2 years we connected long distance regarding our cancer diagnose. Rhonda was so open with her journey and shared her love of travel and camping. Her attitude was inspirational and contagious. We also were graced with her beautiful smile at the helfrich reunion via FaceTime. She is a true blessing and will be missed. Prayers Juanita & Paul

Auntie Rhonda was one of the most beautiful souls I’ve ever known. I am so grateful to have had her in my life. My heart jumped with excitement every time I was around her, from my childhood through to my last recent visit with her (42 years).Honor (our daughter) felt it too, she’s only 8 but absolutely loved being around auntie Rhonda. She recently told us she was going to live with auntie when she goes to university.
I can still hear auntie’s laugh and it makes me feel like she’s a little closer. Rest in peace you incredible woman. We miss you

Deepest Sympathy to your family in the loss of your wife, mother, and grandma. We knew Rhonda in her younger days at Sceptre and when she and Jerome returned to Sceptre to play ball. She stood proudly on first base with a brace on her knee. She was a darn good ball player. I have prayed for Rhonda for many, many years. She was a courageous woman. RIP beautiful lady.
Truly one of the most wonderful ladies I have had the pleasure to know and work with. While we met at work, her friendship and council I will always remember. She helped me as I too walk this similar journey and battle, not once after we would talk did I feel scared about the future. As she’d say, “One day at a Time.” Well my friend Rhonda it’s hard to say goodbye, but I know we’ll see each other again and thank you for your friendship and support. My prayers are with you Jerome and your Children and Grandchildren, may her beautiful smile always be vivid and bright as she will always fill your hearts.
Condolences to my 4th cousin and family.
