It is with great sadness that on November 11th we said goodbye to Ross who passed away peacefully at 94 years, after a very long and fulfilling life.

Ross leaves to mourn him his daughters Heather Roberts and Bean (Rob) Nicol and sons Doug (Joanne) and Tom (Karen); 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and his sister Audrey Gingrich. Ross will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Ross was predeceased by his wife Marilyn of 54 years and Bertha of 7 years; parents Frank and Thelma Richardson; stepmother Mae; brothers Glen and Barry Richardson; sister Joan Bannerman; daughter Sandra Richardson; and son-in-law Hal Roberts.

Ross was born in Dodsland, Saskatchewan on September 30, 1928 to Frank and Thelma Richardson. In 1930 the family settled in Lilydale, Saskatchewan, where Glen joined in 1933.

After his mom passed away in 1935, his father remarried Mae Jeffrey and the family moved to Vernon, B.C. Over the next few years Ross also became big brother to Joan, Audrey and Barry. In 1939 they moved back to Lilydale and Ross went to live with his Grandma Richardson where he stayed until he left at a young age to start the next
chapter of his life.

Through his life he lived across the western provinces and had a wide variety of careers including Construction, Fireman, Town Forman and Business Owner/Operator.

Ross met Marilyn Surmon in 1952 and they were married in 1954. They lived in a small house in Edmonton where they started their family with Heather (56), Doug (57), Tom (59), Sandra (60) and Bean (65) completed the family.

In 2012 Ross married Bertha Woodcox and they resided together until 2018, when he moved to the Good Samaritan Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Centre in Edmonton until his death on November 11, 2022.

The Family would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff at the Good Samaritan Zetter Care Centre for the kindness and support offered to both Ross and his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30pm on Saturday, November 19th at St. Edmunds Parish Hall 13120-116 Street Edmonton NW, officiated by Reverend Gretchen Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ross’s name may be to the Good Samaritan Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Centre 9649 – 71 Avenue Edmonton NW, Alberta T6E 5J2 or the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and NWT.
