Bevan, Sheldon Collus
Sheldon ‘Sonny’ born in Olds AB. on January 1, 1933, to parents Collus and Veta Bevan, and formerly from Marlboro AB., passed away peacefully in Edmonton on May 2, 2024, at the age of 91.
Sheldon was predeceased by his first wife Elsie, second wife Margaret, sister Valeta, brother Wayne, nieces Linda, Jane, and granddaughter Alyssa. Sheldon’s passing brings an end to the journey of the Bevan family name, but his blood still beats still in 3 generations.
Sheldon is survived by his daughters, Terry Lynn (Vic) Kennedy, Valeta Lorene Bevan Averes, grandchildren; Brad Averes (Josee) Joseph Burns (Madeleine) and Adam Averes (Bianca), great grandchildren; Teagan, Mason, Barrett, Emmett, Ellie, Theodore, sister-in-law Joan, his granddaughter Alyssa’s husband Darryl as well as nieces and nephews, extended blended family members, friends, and acquaintances.
Sheldon grew up and was schooled in the Peace River area. He inherited the entrepreneur bug from his father which led Sheldon down the road of many varied business ventures. His experiences included raising chickens in Uranium City, Saskatchewan, working gravel pits in the Peace River area, making investments in the mining sector, trucking up and down the Alaska Highway, northern Alberta, and B.C., moving coal for the White Pass and Yukon Route and operating a security business; and that is only to name a few! His family sent dairy cows by barge to Yellowknife NWT where they ran and operated a successful diary operation in the 1950’s which was the first of its kind in the area. It was their determination and resourcefulness that allowed them to operate a dairy farm in an incredibly challenging environment.
Sheldon loved music, especially the old country music which he also loved to dance to. Sheldon lived and played hard in his day but had a gentle soul right until the end. Those that knew him well will always remember his ‘signature’ stogie!
Cremation has taken place, there will be no service as per his wishes.
