It is with great sadness that we announce that Eugene, our family patriarch, passed away on May 6th at the age of 83. He left this world in the same manner that he lived it, surrounded by the family that he devoted his life to.
Eugene was born on March 2, 1942 in the small town of Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan, to George and Elizabeth Bromberger. In 1951, his family moved to a small farm in the Mosside district near Barrhead, Alberta. He was one of six children. He completed his high school education and eventually moved to Edmonton where he began his schooling and apprenticeship as a lather in the construction industry. In 1965, he married the love of his life, Linda Larson. They raised two children, Dean and Melanie, in the community of Sherwood Park.
He spent his career with several companies, including working with his son in law, before retiring in 2007.
His greatest love was his family, he made that very apparent to each and every one of us. He had a passion for the outdoors, and taught his children to enjoy the beauty of nature through family camping trips, fishing and nature walks. He spent many years hunting with his son, family and friends. He was a very accomplished gardener, and won many awards. For many years he could be found wandering Salisbury greenhouse with a coffee in hand.
He was very well known for his quick wit and ability to make everyone around him laugh, his sarcastic but kind nature and compassion. He was an incredible mentor and friend to many people.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife of sixty years, Linda, his children Dean(Brenda), Melanie (Adri), stepson Lawrence (Kathrine Jane); grandchildren Matthew, Alexandra (Drake), Ashley, Tristan (Emily), Tasha (Sean), Joshua (Victoria), Brendan (Eva), Gillian (Carly) and Rebecca; great grandchildren Janie and Jack; Siblings Deanna, Clifford (Nora), and Darlene. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Rose, brother Dennis, brother in laws Jim and Buck, and his best friend Gordon; In laws Willard and Hjerdis Larson, Ronnie Larson and Elaine Churchill.
He left an indelible mark on many, he was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
“That best portion of a good man’s life, his little, nameless, unremembered, acts of kindness and of love.”
So sorry for your loss. He was a kind and caring man. Great sense of humor . We will miss him??
Was shocked by the passing of my cousin Eugene my thoughts and prayers go out to Linda and family.
He will be missed! Loved his personality! Thinking of the family at this time! XOXO
I’ll always remember Eugene wandering Salisbury, coffee in hand and a big smile for everyone who worked there. It was an honor to know him.
Our deepest sympathies to you Linda and all your family . Keep his memories near and dear.
I will always remember Gene as the kind, caring and helpful man he was. He had a great sense of humour and always had time to visit. A recent favourite memory – each year when I took the kids first day to school photos in front of the apple tree, he would comment about how he would be happy to come out and teach me to prune it. One year I took him up on his offer and he and Linda came for a visit, taught me how and brought me my own pruning spray. We finished with a visit on the patio having banana bread and coffee. Gene is in my heart and will forever be missed, I send my love to each of you.

Eugene…..
A sincere true friend, mentor and most of all a Father to me. He was one of the few people in my life that doesn’t only leave a mark, but the thread that holds a person together through thick and thin. His passion for family is unparalleled and I can only hope to be a fraction of the man he was and is to me. Rest easy Dad.
We will fish again
